Projects
Our current projects
Havering CAB runs several specialised projects funded from a variety of sources as well as offering generalist advice.
The Havering CAB Macmillan Advice Project
The Macmillan Advice Project aims to help cancer patients and their families and carers by offering Welfare Beneifts and Debt Advice to those people who are affected by cancer.
If you are a cancer patient, family member or a carer of someone with cancer, and a resident of Barking and Dagenham, Havering or Redbridge we may be able to help you with the financial strain cancer can cause.
Having cancer can be expensive in ways you wouldn't expect, such as the cost of prescriptions, a special diet, child care or travel to hospital. However there are ways to ease the financial worries.
For more information contact Hannah on 01708 443221 or e-mail her on hannah@haveringcab.org.ukalternatively you can contact Donna Hurley, Macmillan Information Officer at Queens Hospital on 01708 435174 or e-mail her on Donna.Hurley@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk
We are based at 59A Billet Lane, Hornchurch but also have outreach sessions at the Haematology/Oncology department in Queens Hospital, Rom Valley Way, Romford and at The Cedar Centre, King Georges Hospital, Barley Lane, Goodmayes.

Income Maximisation Project
Funded by the Legal Services Commission with additional monies from the London Borough of Havering, this project, as its name implies, is making a concerted effort to ensure that sick, disabled and older people of Havering are claiming all the welfare benefits that they are entitled to. You may contact this project direct on 01708 440466 or be referred by a general adviser.
The Housing Arrears Project
The Housing Arrears Team was set up to help those at risk of repossession as a result of renting and mortgage arrears.
Offficers from the team can be found in Romford County Court every Wednesday as this is when repossession hearings generally take place. We act as Duty Advisers for those who haven't been able to seek prior legal advice. Where possible we negotiate with the landlord or lender to keep people in their homes and we can represent clients in front of the judge.
Back in the office, we do follow-up work from court including more general housing, benefit and debt advice. We also draw up financial statements with clients for submission to the Local Authority Mortgage Rescue Scheme and we advise on other housing and homelessness issues and options.
If you have a court date for arrears, you can either come into one of our open door sessions to seek advice or you can ask the court usher to direct you to us when you arrive in court – please arrive early if you do require our help as we do get very busy.
Over 65's project
This is a specific project to assist over 65's with benefits, age related advice and form filling
LSC Project (Legal Services Commission)
The Legal Services Commission (LSC) works in partnership with solicitors and not-for-profit organisations to help over 2 million people each year access legal advice, information and help. They are funding much of our work with clients with welfare related legal problems.
The above projects are funded by various organisations, without whose help we would be unable to continue these aspects of our work. We would like to thank the following bodies, who are not shown in any particular order:
